IMPORTANT Public Notice

Sanitary Sewer System Smoke Testing Program

Preventing Smoke and Sewer Gases From Entering Your Home or Business

Starting on July 20th, 2026, Hemlock Utility Services will be performing smoke testing of the sanitary sewer systems within the Hemlock Valley community. Additional notices will be delivered 2 weeks and a few days before the smoke testing begins.

By introducing a harmless smoke into the sewers, crews can identify areas of leaks or cross-connections where rainwater or other surface drainage may enter the sanitary sewer system. By eliminating these sources of unnecessary inflow into the system, sanitary sewer overflows can be eliminated reducing the impact to the environment, all while saving significant costs in sewer operations and maintenance. During the brief test procedure, you may expect to see small volumes of test smoke coming from neighbouring roof vents or system manholes, etc. The smoke should not enter your home or place of business.

To help prevent smoke from entering your residence or business…please pour 1 to 2 litres of water into basement floor drains, hot water tank drains, sink drains, bathtub drains, shower drains and any other water drains anywhere in your home or business. This should seal them off. It is a good idea to do this periodically to make sure sewer gases cannot get inside the home or business.

If during the test, smoke does enter your home or business, please contact Hemlock Utility Services – Emergency Phone (604) 314-7852.

If you have any questions regarding the testing, you are welcome to contact the Hemlock Utility Services at info@hemlockvalleyutilities.com.

Thank you for your cooperation.

Water Line Fix Again Continued

This is to notify the community that the distribution water line leak fix on Subdivision 4 (Edelweiss Dr) will once again continue into tomorrow.

The main has been located and crews are now digging along its path to locate the leak.

As previously stated:

Please note that the hole dug today remains in the road and therefore the excavator, as well as cones, have been left in the road as a blockade for the community’s safety.

The area dug is directly across from 20568 Edelweiss Dr, so please plan your route to your residence accordingly, as residents that live further up the road will not be able to reach their home by entry via Edelweiss from Hemlock Valley Rd.

Further updates will be provided by the end of tomorrow.

Thank you.

Power Outage March 11th, 2026 – Update

This is to update the community that BC Hydro is getting closer to restoring power to the mountain, although there is still no estimate available for this.

It would appear that there is only one problem area left to repair, although BC Hydro’s site does not specify this. For those keeping up with BC Hydro’s live updates from their Outage map, you would have seen that the crew was temporarily suspended, but a new crew has been assigned and is projected to arrive to the site around 11 am today.

With this in mind, it is our sincere hope that they are able to return power sometime today.

Thank you.

** UPDATE ** as of 12:11 pm

Crews have now arrived and the estimated time on has been projected for 5 pm today.

Water Main Fix – Completed

We are happy to announce that our team found a way to complete the work without water service interruption to any residents and that the repair to the drinking water main on Snowflake Crescent has now completed.

As well, we will be conducting extra sampling on the water in the area affected simply as a precaution. Our chlorine residual from our drinking water plant remains at good levels, keeping the water clean as it moves through the distribution pipes. As always, we are working closely with Fraser Health in the monitoring of our drinking water and distribution.

Thank you.
