Planned Power Outage for May 20

BC Hydro will have a controlled power outage on Wednesday May 20th, from approximately 10 am to 4 pm, which will affect our area.

BC Hydro crews will be performing equipment maintenance during this time.

Before the outage begins, turn off electric heaters, major appliances, and unplug sensitive electronics to protect them from damage. If you rely on electric medical equipment or access doors, have a plan to maintain use.

For live updates on the day of the outage, please visit BC Hydro’s outage map.

Thank you.

Power Outage Update

As of approximately 7:30 pm yesterday, crews on the ground returned power. This outage was due to old high-voltage elbow giving out within a high voltage vault and was unrelated to the fix happening on the Subdivision 4 water distribution line leak. To resolve the problem, the affected part was replaced.

In lieu of of this discovery, we will be planning a major inspection for all other transformers within our infrastructure to prevent similar happenings in the future.

On a separate note, we may have to induce a controlled power outage today to safely continue work on the Subdivision 4 water distribution line leak. A high-voltage vault is in close proximity to the leak, resulting in the fix taking more time than originally estimated.

If a temporary controlled power outage is found to be necessary, we will send out further updates to the community before it is put into place.

Thank you.

Boil Water Advisory Lifted – Hemlock Valley Water System

Hemlock Valley Water System
Date Issued: April 9th, 2026

The Boil Water Advisory issued on March 14th, 2026, for the Hemlock Valley Water System has been lifted effective immediately.

Multiple consecutive sets of drinking water samples have confirmed that the water quality meets all regulatory microbiological standards and is free of harmful bacteria, including Total Coliform and E. coli. The free chlorine residual has returned to consistent levels, and turbidity remains low.

Additional investigations will be conducted over the spring and summer to ensure an adequate supply of potable water during periods of high demand.

Residents can now resume normal water usage, including drinking, cooking, and brushing teeth with tap water without the need for boiling.

Hemlock Utility Services and Fraser Health Authority worked in close consultation to resolve this issue as quickly and safely as possible, and we appreciate the community’s patience and understanding during the advisory.

Boil Water Advisory Update – Hemlock Valley

Boil Water Advisory Update – Hemlock Valley

April 6th, 2026

Hemlock Utility Services continues to actively manage the current boil water advisory.

Additional measures have been implemented, including increased free chlorine residual monitoring throughout the distribution system and increased bacteriological sampling within the community.

Free chlorine residual levels have been increased since the pressure loss on March 14th and are consistently maintained within the system. Recent bacteriological sampling results have all returned negative, which is a positive indication.

We are working closely to ensure all regulatory requirements are met and will only lift the advisory once it is confirmed that it is safe to do so. We will be meeting with our Environmental Health Officer from Fraser Health Authority this week to discuss the advisory and next steps.

We understand the inconvenience this has caused and appreciate the community’s patience and cooperation.

Further updates will be provided as they become available. At this time, the Boil Water Advisory remains in place.

BOIL WATER ADVISORY – March 14th, 2026

Hemlock Valley Water System

Date Issued: March 14th, 2026

Reason For This Notice:

The water system is currently unsuccessful in maintaining adequate pressure during peak demand times due to the recent increase in population. As a result, there have been periodic losses of water pressure in the drinking water distribution lines yesterday and today. As well, low free Chlorine residuals have been found in our regular testing in the far ends of our distribution lines. Due to these factors, Hemlock Valley is now under a Boil Water Advisory for the foreseeable future.

What Should I Do?

  • Do not drink the water without boiling first or otherwise treating the water.
  • Boil water for 2 minutes. Let it cool before using.
  • You can choose to use bottled water.
  • Boiled or bottled water should be used for drinking, cooking, brushing teeth, washing food ready to eat & washing dishes.
  • Store treated water in sanitary containers & keep refrigerated.

Other Methods of Treating Your Water:

  • Chlorine: Unscented household bleach (5%), add 2 drops per liter, cover, and let stand for 30 minutes. If water is cloudy or colder then 10c add 4 drops per liter.
  • Iodine/ Chlorine tablets: See manufacturers’ directions.
  • Note: Brita Water Filters will NOT provide treatment for bacteria.

What Is Being Done?

We are working closely with Fraser Health Authority during this event.

We are monitoring free chlorine residuals and turbidity in the water distribution lines, as well as taking microbiological samples.

We will inform you when re-sampling results come in showing no bacteria, when the demand on the system adequately lessens, and you no longer need to boil your water.

For AirBnB hosts and landlords, please inform current and incoming visitors of this notice.

Power Outage March 11th, 2026

As of 8:22 pm, March 11th, power went out due to a severe windstorm that caused extensive damage to BC Hydro’s infrastructure.

At this time, there is no estimate on when the power will be restored. HUS is working closely with BC Hydro and will provide updates as they become available.

Alternatively, you may visit BC Hydro’s Outage map for live updates, attached here.

Previous Power Outage Due to BC Hydro

This is to simply inform the community that the investigation into the previous power outage last Saturday that lasted from 2:30 pm to 8:30 pm found that it was due a motor vehicle accident involving damage to a power pole on Morris Valley Rd on the BC Hydro side of the infrastructure. The accident happened around 1 pm, but power had to be cut off in order to safely finish the repair.

As such, there are no preventative or remedial actions to be taken by HVU at this time. Thank you.

BC Hydro Power Outage

As of 10:30 AM today, the power went out due to work being done on BC Hydro’s side of the infrastructure along Hemlock Valley Road. The estimated completion time is 4:30 PM today.

We apologize for the late notice. Typically, BC Hydro sends HVU and all other direct customers an advance email notice for planned work on equipment, but we did not receive notice from them on this particular occasion.

For live updates, visit BC Hydro’s Outage map.

Thank you.
