BC Hydro Power Outage – Update

As residents currently on the mountain will know, power was restored by BC Hydro to the mountain yesterday (Tuesday) at 5:11 pm.

The outage, which occurred on Monday at 2:57 pm, was due a wind storm felling multiple trees onto power lines along Morris Valley Rd. Both the wifi and cell service were also down during this time.

As well, we experienced impassable road blockages down the mountain from roughly 3 pm to 7 pm on Monday evening. On Tuesday, there remained many portions of road only passable by one lane. Today, the road has been cleaned up and cleared of fallen trees / debris.

We are grateful for the hard work of the BC Hydro crew members working all hours to resolve the issue, as there were multiple downed power lines in the Fraser Valley due to the storm.

As of 8:22 AM this morning, the unexpected outage that began at 5:32 AM affecting the North-South-East-West of Lougheed Hwy has been resolved and power has been restored.

BC Hydro has not yet released the cause for this unexpected outage. We will update this post as that information becomes available.

We are experiencing an unexpected BC Hydro power outage as of 5:32 AM this morning. This outage affects the North-South-East-West of Lougheed Hwy – including Hemlock Valley.

The cause is still under investigation at this time.

As last updated at 7:05 AM – a crew has been dispatched and their estimated arrival to the scene was 7:40 AM.

Planned Power Outages – September 18, 23 & 24, 2025

Hemlock Valley Utilities will be performing essential infrastructure upgrades this month that require temporary power outages affecting the entire mountain community.

Please find the planned outage details below:

📅 Outage Schedule:

Thursday, September 18 from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM
🔧 Reason: Transformer Replacement

Tuesday, September 23 from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM
🔧 Reason: Power Pole Replacement

Wednesday, September 24 from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM
🔧 Reason: Power Pole Replacement

These outages are necessary to improve the safety, reliability, and long-term performance of the electrical system throughout the Hemlock Valley area.

🔌 Please Prepare:

Shut off electric heaters, stoves, and major appliances before the outage begins.

Unplug sensitive electronics to avoid potential damage.

Ensure any electrically powered medical or access devices are supported by a backup power plan.

Landlords: Please ensure your tenants are informed ahead of these scheduled outages.

Planned Electricity Service Interruption – System Upgrade

We have been informed by BC Hydro that they will be performing essential system upgrade work requiring a temporary power outage in the Hemlock Valley area.

Date & Time:
Thursday, September 25 at 10:00 PM to Friday, September 26 at 6:00 AM

Reason: System Upgrade by BC Hydro

This planned outage is part of ongoing improvements to the electrical infrastructure and reliability of service in the area.

Please Prepare Accordingly:

Turn off electric heaters and major appliances.

Unplug sensitive electronics to protect them from surges.

Ensure you have backup power for medical or access-related equipment if required.

Landlords: Kindly inform your tenants in advance.

Electricity Interruption Due to Tree on Power Lines

We would like to inform residents that there is currently a power outage in the area due to a tree that has come down across BC Hydro’s power lines.

BC Hydro crews are on site and working to safely restore electricity.
