Cautionary Boil Water Advisory

Hemlock Valley Water System

Date Issued: February 6th, 2026

Reason For This Notice:

Earlier today, pressure was temporarily lost in the drinking water distribution system. The issue has been resolved and a strong Chlorine residual continues to be maintained in our distribution lines. In an act of extreme caution, the provincial health authority is issuing a Boil Water Advisory until we receive the results from sampling. Thank you for your patience at this time.

What Should I Do?

– Do not drink the water without boiling first or otherwise treating the water.

– Boil water for 2 minutes. Let it cool before using.

– You can choose to use bottled water.

– Boiled or bottled water should be used for drinking, cooking, brushing teeth, washing food ready to eat & washing dishes.

– Store treated water in sanitary containers & keep refrigerated.

Other Methods of Treating Your Water:

– Chlorine: Unscented household bleach (5%), add 2 drops per liter, cover, and let stand for 30 minutes. If water is cloudy or colder then 10c add 4 drops per liter.

– Iodine/ Chlorine tablets: See manufacturers’ directions.

– Note: Brita Water Filters will NOT provide treatment for bacteria.

What Is Being Done?

We are currently:

Monitoring free chlorine residuals and turbidity in the water distribution lines, as well as taking microbiological samples.

We will inform you when the re-sampling shows no bacteria, and you no longer need to boil your water.
