Boil Water Notices have been placed on homes throughout the village. Please make sure that renters and guests to your cabins are aware of the boil water notice. Please post it in a visible area inside rental suites.

BOIL WATER NOTICE

Warning: Boil or Otherwise Treat Your Water Before Using

Date Issued: June 28 – 2019

The Hemlock Valley Water System has had sufficient turbidity within the water system due to record setting heavy rain on Wednesday evening. This precautionary notice will remain in place for the long weekend until Hemlock Utility Services has received 2 consecutive safe samples. This will allow and remove any potentially harmful bacteria while the system can be flushed and settles over the next 5 days.

WHAT SHOULD I DO?

Do not Drink the water without Boiling First Or otherwise treating the water.
Boil water for 1 minute (rolling boil). Preferable use a Kettle so as to reduce the risk of burns. Let it COOL before using.
You can choose to use Bottled Water
Boiled or bottled water should be used for DRINKING, COOKING, BRUSHING TEETH, WASHING READY TO EAT FOODS & WASHING DISHES.
Store treated water in sanitary containers & keep refrigerated

OTHER METHODS OF TREATING YOUR WATER

Note: Brita Water Filters will NOT provide treatment for microbes

What Happened? What is being done?
We are working with the Fraser Health Authority to investigate/resolve this issue. We are currently monitoring the system hourly and assessing the quality and levels.

We will inform you when the problem has been corrected and tests show no bacteria and you no longer need to boil your water.

The sample quality improved after the addition of the new treatment facility in Late October, we continue to see better samples and operational results into 2016.

The 2014 Sample Report shows the importance of following the boil water advisory as;

21% of tests contain E.Coli

50% of tests contain Coliform bacteria

We are maintaining an ongoing Boil Water Advisory and it will remain in effect until consistent test results are achieved.

Update on Facility Improvements

Hemlock Utility Services has been dedicated to constructing a new Water Treatment Facility since the fall  of 2014. This significant investment in the Water System will help us to meet the Canadian Guidelines for Drinking Water Quality and deliver potable water to our customers. Construction is complete on the building and we are in the final stages of bringing the facility online. The new facility contains; two levels of filtration to reduce turbidity and contaminates, a UV system to inactivate bacteria, and a continuously monitored reservoir to ensure proper chlorine levels. This state of the art facility will ensure our fresh mountain water is a safe product for everyone to enjoy.

We are expecting to have the Water Treatment Facility in operation and commissioned in the next month. We will keep you informed of developments via this website and send a mailed announcement when our water is deemed potable by Fraser Health.

Recent test results show increasing levels of Coliform and E.coli in our drinking water.

We are advising residents to strictly adhere to the Boil Water Advisory until these water quality issues are resolved.  We are working diligently to rectify this situation and we will be providing further operational updates through this website.
